About 45 minutes northeast of our shop on Amsterdam Way in north Wilmington -- US-17 through Ogden, Porters Neck, and Hampstead, then NC-210 east into Surf City. Add a few minutes for summer beach traffic near the bridge.
Surf City straddles the Intracoastal Waterway, with the original beach town on Topsail Island and most of the recent growth on the mainland side along NC-210 and NC-50. The high-rise bridge that replaced the old swing bridge in 2018 ended the era of waiting on the hour for the span to swing closed, and the mainland subdivisions have been filling in ever since. For a contractor that means two different kinds of work: salt-exposed cottages and elevated builds on the island that need coastal-spec everything, and newer mainland homes hitting the age where builder finishes need real attention.
