Do you remove the old flooring?
Yes. Tear-out, haul-away, and subfloor prep are all itemized in the written scope so there are no surprise line items later.
Can you fix a soft or uneven subfloor before installing?
That's part of the job. We check for moisture and soft spots during the estimate and include any repair or leveling in the scope -- laying new floors over a bad subfloor just moves the problem down the road.
