Oak Island sits at the end of NC-133 past Bolivia and the Southport junction, on a barrier island that faces the open Atlantic. The drive from our shop near Military Cutoff in north Wilmington runs about 50 minutes -- south through Leland, down NC-133, and across the bridge onto the island's main spine. Homes range from original 1960s beach cottages to newer elevated builds on pilings, and the salt air and coastal humidity keep maintenance cycles short. Brunswick County's permanent population has been climbing -- retirees cashing out of northern markets, families priced out of Wilmington proper, vacation owners converting second homes to year-round residences -- and all of it drives steady demand for outdoor-living builds and remodel work. Oak Island doesn't have a deep bench of local contractors, which is part of why the drive from Wilmington makes sense.
