Ogden is the unincorporated stretch of New Hanover County along the Market Street corridor northeast of Wilmington, running from the Military Cutoff split out toward Porters Neck and east to Middle Sound Loop and the Intracoastal. It is also home ground for us -- our shop on Amsterdam Way sits just off Market Street in the middle of it. The housing tells the area's story in layers: Bayshore Estates' big half-acre lots from the 1970s and 80s with no HOA and a community boat ramp, newer master-planned streets in Marsh Oaks, and everything between. Homes near Middle Sound and the ICW carry real coastal exposure, and the older stock is deep into the age where kitchens, baths, decks, and siding all come due.

My Bayshore-era home is 40-plus years old. Do you work on houses that age?
Regularly -- the 1970s and 80s homes around Bayshore and Middle Sound are a big part of our local work. Kitchens, bathrooms, decks, siding, and windows on that stock are all past their original service life, and we scope each project to the actual house rather than a preset package.
Does being near Middle Sound and the ICW change what materials you recommend?
It can. Homes toward Middle Sound Loop pick up more salt-air exposure than properties on the west side of Market Street, and we factor that into decking, hardware, and finish choices during the estimate.
